 "PREVENTION OF MEDICAL ERRORS - A Requirement for License Renewal"

Hello Members and Guests!

As a Chapter we have been actively engaged in presenting CE that meets requirements for LNCC re-certification as well as RN license renewal in Florida. Many members and guest will renew Florida RN licenses in April and July 2020. "Prevention of Medical Errors" is a 2-hour CE requirement for every license renewal cycle. We are offering this presentation in February in plenty of time for the April 2020 renewals. Judy A. Young, MSN, MHL, RN, LNCC will present this 2-hour program. Attendees of this presentation will:

1. Discuss the Medical Errors course requirements for nursing license renewal in Florida;
2. Describe and define medical errors, and adverse and sentinel events;
3. Examine U.S. healthcare statistics relating to medical errors;
4. Identify medical error high risk environments and populations; and
5. Describe the process for reporting medical errors.

SPEAKER: JUDY A. YOUNG, MSN, MHL, RN, LNCC is a nurse with over 42 years’ experience, 20 of which were served in the U.S. Air Force. Judy’s LNC experience includes defense of mass torts/product liability and medical malpractice, and many years as a critical care expert witness. In addition to decades of critical care experience, Judy has been a nursing school director and instructor, and has experience in nursing administration and flight nursing. She has a master’s degree in nursing from University of Oklahoma, and a master´s degree in health law, from the Sheppard Broad Law Center, Nova Southeastern University, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Judy has presented this topic previously to the Greater Orlando Chapter.

Enter the building from the parking garage side (Ridgewood Street), turn right in the lobby, and take the 1st left. Our classroom/conference room is Suite 110, on the right past the fitness center. The Security Guard can give directions.

Program: Attorney Richard Schwamm will present a Case Study. Mr. Schwamm has presented to the Chapter before, to rave reviews! We are excited for him to present to our Group again!

SPEAKER: RICHARD B. SCHWAMM, partner and shareholder of Haliczer Pettis & Schwamm´s Orlando office, is an experienced trial attorney who focuses his practice in the areas of medical malpractice, catastrophic brain injury, personal injury, premises liability, wrongful death and complex corporate litigation. He earned Martindale-Hubbell´s top "AV" rating for his high professional and ethical standards. Mr. Schwamm has been named to the list of Florida Super Lawyers from 2010 - 2018, as selected by Law & Politics magazine. Only 5 percent of attorneys in the state receive the recognition each year. Mr. Schwamm was recently named to the 2018 Best Lawyers list, as one of the top medical malpractice lawyers in Orlando, Florida.
